Le Vert Hotel! If you are looking for an excellent two star hotel (with five star service and food) check out Le Vert. The atmosphere can't be beat: friendly employees and management, an awesome bar (and better DJ than at the clubs in Chamonix), and the best burgers I have ever had (I am american...and I eat a lot of burgers in the states). The management was even nice enough to let me take a quick shower on my last day in town after a day of riding, even though I had already checked out (try doing that at a major hotel chain).

But seriously, even if you don't end up staying there, stop by the bar/restaurant for a burger, they are f-ing delicious.

Went riding last Sunday with Ode Siivonen, and it was a damn near perfect day. Not only is Ode the most talented snowboarder I have ever seen in person, he also is a great guy and excellent guide. We spent the day exploring Les Grands Montets with 1-1.5 meters of fresh pow (Avalanche Level 4/5....definitely worth getting a guide!). Without Ode I would have been lost, likely scared of avvy's, and a much less accomplished rider. He gave me some tips on riding in the deep snow, navigating trees, ridgelines, and gullies and also how to plan your line. If you are planning on spending some time in Chamonix and are looking for a guide who speaks very good English (as well as a few other languages) and is fun to be around, Ode is the man to call. (He is also an excellent skier, in case you use two boards instead of one).

Wow I had missed this website and am very grateful for this precise (I of course mean danmilners astute summary) which saved me reading the rest. I will miss the feeling of growing claustrophobia though as you go upwards and the lifts get smaller and smaller.
